Results of the UN Declaration

As was declared a few weeks ago in my post about the Vatican and Italian Law (found here), Armenia voted in favor of the UN declaration on human rights that would make homosexuality not a crime. Some now question whether this is the right movement for Armenia, but not for the reasons you may think.

Karine Danielyan, Chairman of the Sustainable Human Development group in Armenia, said that this declaration would hurt Armenians. She said that by decriminalizing homosexuality you bring it into the culture which hurts population growth. In a country with such high migration and lower birth rates than most of Europe, this seems to be of some concern,

[Dziunik Aghajanian, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, stated that the declaration only refers to violence against homosexuals and does not force the population to accept or integrate homosexuality into the culture.  She basically states that in Armenia the laws don't apply only to certain people, it applies to everyone.]{}
