With our first week done, let's end things with Hungary!
This year Hungary is sending András Kállay-Saunders to try and beat their 10th place finish from last year. András, although technically born in the US, was born to Hungarian model Katalin. and is a descendant of the noble Kállay family from his mother's side as well. He first moved to Hungary after visiting there in 2011 and auditioning for Megasztár. Ending in 4th place on the contest, he instantly became a star in Hungary, even releasing a song which would hit #2 on the Hungarian Top 40 Billboards. Even with this success it took András 3 attempts to win the Hungarian national selection.
The song that finally allowed András to get selected is called 'Running' and was written by András. It's about a girl who is running away from an abusive father. Although the topic is extremely heavy for the usually happy go-lucky Eurovision song contest the song itself is phenomenal. It draws you in and makes you want to listen to it over and over again. It brings out emotions from within you that most of the time we want to keep hidden. And if András can hit those high notes live as well as he did in the video then he surely will go far. The melody of the song is really nice as well and fits in with a lot of more popular songs. This so far has been one of my favourite songs and I expect it to be in the top 10 of the finals this year.
