Labor Unions back overturning prop 8

Over 50 major Californian Labor Unions united today in order to show their support against Proposition 8.

The 50+ labor unions released a brief earlier today asking the Supreme Court of California to overtun Proposition 8 because they feel it is illegal. They state that Proposition 8 is not a constitutional amendment, but is instead a constitutional revision. The difference? 16% of the vote. An amendment only needs a simple majority, but a revision needs a 2/3 majority.

In their brief the Labor Unions said:

"If a simple majority of voters can take away one fundamental right, it can take away another," the unions argue in the brief. "If it can deprive one class of citizens of their rights, it can deprive another class too. Today it is gays and lesbians who are singled out. Tomorrow it could be trade unionists."
