Belarus

Belarus this year gets the motorcycle gang award. The band looks like they just got out of a motorcycle bar and decided to just randomly start singing. And just like any random group of bikers singing, they don’t perform really well. The don’t bring me anything to make me smile or anything. I quickly got bored of this song and wanted to move on. I almost wish I had a drink to get me through this song. Unfortunately Europe seems to agree as they haven’t had many youtube views. They can consider themselves lucky if they make top 10 in this years semi-finals.

We Are The Heroes

When the night is falling from the sky
Just keep walking
On a highway
When the world is deaf to all your cries
Just keep going
You’ll be there someday
You’re not alone
We’re against them all
Hold on to me
I’ll never let you fall
Even if someday all hope is gone
I will not give up

Whatever’s standing in my way
We’ll make it through the day
Cause we are the winners
We are the heroes

We’re breaking down the walls
We’re gonna hit them all
Cause we are believers
We are the dreamers

No matter what they say
No matter what they do
I’ll make it alright
I’ll make it for you

We’re breaking down the walls
We are the heroes

As I stand beneath the starry sky
I just lose
Faith in gravity
And it feels like I can learn to fly
Bring to life
All my fantasies
You’re not alone
We’re against them all
Hold on to me
I’ll never let you fall
Even if someday all hope is gone
I will not give up

Whatever’s standing in my way
We’ll make it through the day
Cause we are the winners
We are the heroes

We’re breaking down the walls
We’re gonna hit them all
Cause we are believers
We are the dreamers

No matter what they say
No matter what they do
I’ll make it alright
I’ll make it for you
We’re breaking down the walls
We are the heroes

Switzerland

Switzerland definitely gets the hope award. Not only is this song about hope, but they also need a lot of hope to win. They have the lowest number of youtube views which sucks completely and also the song itself is very boring. There is nothing unique in it that makes me want to keep it on repeat. There have already been countless songs that get me in the groove, but this song just kills it. I expect Switzerland to be one of the failures of this years Eurovision, potentially getting last in the 1st semi-final.

Turkey

Today commemorates the day of rememberance of the Armenian Genocide. Since Armenia decided to be xenophobic and chose not to participate this year, I am going to give Turkey the honor. I might not like that the government of Turkey consistently refutes the Armenian genocide, but that does not stop me from having Turkish friends. The less racism in this world the better!

Turkey this year kicks us off with a super gay and fun song. The music video has a pirate theme giving it the Pirate award this year! This song completely reminds me of Cosmo Jarvis’ song ‘Gay Pirates’. It is very well produced and I just can’t stop listening to it. Turkey did an amazing job this year!

Luckily for them Europe seems to agree. They are currently 3rd in my youtube roundup from yesterday. Not only is this song fun to sing along with, but the singer is super cute. His good looks and the funness of the song just make me want to get up and dance. I think this song will definitely make top 10 this year. Can also has a unique voice in that he doesn’t really sing like most of the other artists which will help him standout.

Oh, hey, hey!
Baby love me back today
Never ever sink my ship
And sail away

Oh, oh, ah!
Baby don’t shut me down
Give me all the love I need
And I’ll be gone

I’m a lonely sailor
Drinking the night away
My ship is made from hope
She’s searching for your bay
But you don’t care

Hop on to my ship baby
I’ll make you fly
You love me and you know that baby
Don’t you lie

Like me like I like you and say Na na na…

Oh, oh, oh!
We need a bit of Rock’n Roll
Baby don’t you crush my soul
And make me fall

Oh, hey, hey!
Baby love me back today
Don’t you ever sink my ship
And sail away

Hop on to my ship baby
I’ll make you fly
You love me and you know that baby
Don’t you lie

Like me like I like you and say Na na na…

Pirates, high seas, cautions, cannons and potions
A sailor’s passion can always conquer the oceans
Sing with me my children

Hop on to my ship baby
I’ll make you fly
You love me and you know that baby
Don’t you lie

Like me like I like you and say Na na na…
Haydiii

Nan nay, nan nan nan nay nan nan nan nay…

Youtube Roundup

A good indicator of which song the general public likes is by seeing which songs are watched the most often on youtube. Although this is not 100% accurate as it will only show the global count and not country by country like the voting system, you can kind of predict what will happen. If one song only has 10,000 views and another song has 1,000,000 views, you can safely assume that the second song has a greater probability of winning.

With that in mind I present you the youtube counts as of right now!

Seems like currently Russia is headed for the top spot! Cyprus is close behind in 2nd. Turkey, UK, Azerbaijan, and Germany are all fighting for 3rd. Can’t wait to see how it all pans out! Again, these numbers mean almost nothing, but they are fun to look at.

Romania

Romania definitely wins the outfit change award! The number of outfits that Mandinga has are just amazing. I counted at least 8 outfits in her song! I love that Mandinga has all the time in the world to change outfits left and right.

This song is so upbeat and happy you can’t help but smile and want to get up and dance. Mandinga’s voice is exquisite and has a nice range to it. Her good looks and the upbeatness of this song will probably cause it to get very far. I definitely think it will get into the finals, but once there she will find heavy competitition. With Turkey’s upbeat number and the dancing Babushka’s from Russia I think Mandina might get lost in the crowd. At least that might give her time to plan more outfit changes! I wonder if she’ll have changes during the competition.

Mandinga, everyday
Mandinga, zaleilah lei

I feel the rhythm of your body touching me
The wind’s perfume kissing me
Feels so good when I’m with you
You touching me and kissing me makes me want to dance
I’m so happy, I can shout out loud

Zaleilah-leila-lei, everyday, everybody
When you love you say, everyday, everybody
Zaleilah-leila-lei, everyday, everybody
Zaleilah-leila-lei, zaleilah-leila-lei
(x2)

Let me love you, let me love you forever
Never doubt that I’m here just for you
Come here, my sweet chocolate boy
Only you can make me feel the real love
(x2)

Zaleilah-leila-lei, everyday, everybody
When you love you say, everyday, everybody
Zaleilah-leila-lei, everyday, everybody
Zaleilah-leila-lei, zaleilah-leila-lei

When you make me feel so special
I am dreaming I am dreaming…

Everybody say: “Let’s go! ”
Yeah!
That’s right, move your body!
Up! Up! Let’s go!

That’s right, that’s right!
Let’s go, let’s go!

Zaleilah-leila-lei, everyday, everybody
When you love you say, everyday, everybody
Zaleilah-leila-lei, everyday, everybody
Zaleilah-leila-lei, zaleilah-leila-lei

Latvia

And the ego award goes to Latvia! This song is all about this song. Oddly enough the song is actually kind of beautiful. I wonder if Paul McCartney will ever want to work with her. I guess only if she actually wrote this song, oh wait, but she didn’t. Also, what is up with the awkward dancers in the background? Could she have at least chosen good dancers for her beautiful song? It kind of killed it. Also, I’m pretty sure Johnny Logan might be embarrased that you were born the year he won Eurovision in 1980. His voice completely out does yours and I’m pretty sure he hit notes you couldn’t. I’d say his song was more beautiful. But who knows Latvia, maybe the world will look away from the ego and they lyrics and focus on the beat, at which point you will also lose. This song goes against most of the normalcy in Europe. I doubt it will pass through to the finals unfortunately, but good luck to Latvia anyway.

I was born in distant nineteen-eighty
The year that Irish Johnny Logan won
Thirty years ago, they still remember
So dream away
Today’s the day
I’m singing out my song

When I join this grand parade of winners
And we’ve made this song a worldwide hit
I will buy oh my own mike to sing in
And all the jobs I’ve had before I’m surely gonna quit

Beautiful song is on the radio, is in the tv shows and so on and on
Beautiful song that everybody hums and everybody loves

My Mom said I’d grow up to be a singer

And Daddy smiled when gave me my guitar
I do my best, and I’ll be so much better
Brightest of the highest and the farthest of the stars

And on that day when Sir Mick Jagger phones me
Tell him, please, that I am very busy
Writing brand new songs with Paul McCartney
So sorry Mick, I’ll call you back, someday I’ll call you back…

Beautiful song is on the radio, is in the tv shows and so on and on
Beautiful song that everybody hums and everybody loves

Israel

This years circus award goes to Israel. I personally love my circus songs. (Remember Spain’s Algo Pequinito from 2010?) I like the song as it’s fun loving and really exciting, but the beat is not the best for eurovision and also as most countries begin to notice the way Israel handles Palestinians the politics of everything will cause this entry to not do so well. I don’t know if it will even get past the semi-finals, but you never know. Last year they didn’t get to far, but maybe clowns are big this year?

Time time don’t let me down
You’re the man in my play ground
What you say i will obey – night and day

Feel free to turn me on
Feel free to change my song
I will cound and you will go on
Sing my song I say

Time time give me just a sign sign, Give me just the time
Why are you pressuring me? Go to Sleep
You got to give me more time
Time time why wont you just sleep – tell me how much time
why do you have to always be either black or white

Time time could you be mine
I will feed you songs and wine
I’ll make you lazy, i’ll make you late
Wait wait wait

Wait wait we two are one
But you always take the lead
I lay down and you just run
Mind your speed I say

Time time give me just a sign sign, Give me just the time
Why are you pressuring me? Go to Sleep
You got to give me more time
Time time why wont you just sleep tell me how much time
why do you have to always be either black or white

Time time don’t let me down

Hungary

Today we are celebrating the breakup award. I am broken up with Hungary. I dont really like their song very much, but because of Eurovision politics I assume they will do ok for the semi-finals and might place near the bottom for finals like they did last year when they finished 22nd. We’ll see how they perform in Baku.

The whole big world is just one place.
You can say (that) is all the same.
You may feel: hatred is sown
We can show you it’s no way to go.

This is the sound of our hearts,
If you listen.
This is a zeal from above
and it can say it all
This a fever they can’t take away
This is the sound of, the sound of,
the sound of our hearts.

Harmony can be achieved,
(Just) find some way to get connected.
Differences may not be wrong
They enrich (the) things that we know.

Different faiths, different views
All we can do is to turn them in key.

This is the sound of our hearts,
If you listen.
This is a zeal from above
and it can say it all
This a fever they can’t take away
This is the sound of, the sound of,
the sound of our hearts.

Russia

If you have not heard this song you are missing out! Cutest award definitely goes to Russia this year. 6 ‘babushkas’ sing their hearts out trying to get everyone up and pumped to party. Although I personally think the fire in the background is the best part. They might not have the best voices, but they are so much fun to watch and you just want to clap along and go out and party with them. I think people will vote for them just because it is the cutest thing ever. And also since Russia has traditionally done very well in the competition due to the political nature of Eurovision, I highly expect this one to get really high up there. I imagine they will definitely do better than 16th like happened last time.

I will be putting a white tablecloth,
I will be waiting for kids coming back home.
The dough is rising joyously.
And my heart is cheering.

Party for everybody! Dance!
Come on and dance!
Come on and dance!
Come on and… Boom! Boom!

The house is full of kids, the relatives have come.
I am going to put on my green dress,
I am going to tie a white head cloth.
And I am going to dance.

We are singing extremely strongly.
We are dancing soulful, so soulful!
We are singing extremely strongly,
Because we are together!

Party for everybody! Dance!
Come on and dance!
Come on and dance!
Come on and …
Party for everybody! Dance!
Come on and dance!
Come on and dance!
Come on and… Boom! Boom!

And my cat is happy, and my dog is happy!
And my cat is happy, and my dog is happy!
The happiness is overflowing!
Oh joy!

We are singing extremely strongly.
We are dancing soulful, so soulful!
We are singing extremely strongly,
Because we are together!

Party for everybody! Dance!
Come on and dance!
Come on and dance!
Come on and …
Party for everybody! Dance!
Come on and dance!

Come on and… Boom! Boom!

Party for everybody! Dance!
Come on and dance!
Come on and dance!
Come on and …
Party for everybody! Dance!

Moldova

Where did this come from Moldova?! I love the beat and feel to this song. It’s so happy and exciting. It might not be europop, but it’s pretty slick. This type of song usually doesn’t go over very well against the catchy tune of a lot of the other songs. On another note, the boy is super cute. The cute factor might just boost him a couple points in the rankings, but the lack of dance might just take away that boost. I think he will barely not make it into the finals unfortunately.

At the wedding tonight she looks nicer than the bride.
When she smiles, I forget my lyrics.
I got blind, I got mad, not from the diamonds she had
But from the beauty that puts my heart on fire

You have never been at my show
You haven’t seen before how looks the trumpet
But the sound goes straight to your soul
Gets you out of control
This trumpet makes you my girl

Just like from paradise, you came down from the skies
On a plane which belongs to your daddy
Welcome to carousel. The wine is sweet, but take care,
cause too much is no good for a princess.

You have never been at my show
You haven’t seen before how looks the trumpet
But the sound goes straight to your soul
Gets you out of control
This trumpet makes you my girl
